Fennel is a well known plant used in many cultures as a remedy for indigestion, flatulence, constipation and other digestive problems. A popular culinary herb in India, fennel is used in foods, medicines, and perfumery. Ground and powdered fennel seeds can be used to flavor breads, cakes, and pies. It is also used for respiratory ailments, to help increase the flow of breast milk, to lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation. Kasmik's Triple Crown Remedies
#1-Crush or grind 1-2 teaspoons of the seeds, then steep in 8 oz boiling water for ten minutes to produce a very effective remedy for indigestion. Add a small amount of vanilla flavored rice milk for a smoother taste or for children. The aroma is also soothing and relaxing to the nerves. Inhale deeply as you sip the tea.
#2 -Crush or grind 2 tablespoons of fennel and fenugreek seeds, the steep in 8-12 oz boiling water for ten minutes. Lightly sweeten with raw honey or agave and sip slowly. Optional-add fresh lemon juice for extra kick!
#3 -To create a poultice to reduce inflammation-Mix powdered seeds in boiling water to make a paste. Spread paste on one side of a white cotton cloth twice the size of the area to be treated. Fold or wrap cloth to contain the paste and apply to affected area while hot. Place towel or another cloth on top of poultice and remove after 20-30 minutes.
